The "graphics FIFO still > half full!" seems to be the clue.  This happens
if bizarre graphical objects are drawn, e.g. with vertices at infinity or
transformations yielding infinite results.  This is unfortunately common when
running the "4D rotation" program.  Might also arise if you zoomed extremely
far in or out, or applied hyperbolic translations to objects which don't fit
in the unit sphere.   Do any of these sound familiar?

It's also been known to occur when the graphics hardware is actually broken.
If it keeps happening at apparently random times, that might be the place to
look.
