triangle groups module

I have been having great fun playing with geomview, and now I have a job
I want to do that is similar to the triangle groups external module.
That is, the user will pick one (or more) points out of a coordinate
plane, and the module will then construct some geoms  depending on
the coordinates picked by the user (hyperbolic pleated surfaces), and
pass them to GeomView. Any advice on the best route to take in developing
this project? My instinct is to take a look at the source code for the
triangle groups external module, perhaps using it as a template. I
have not looked carefully at the existing documentation about how to
link external modules with GeomView; any comments directing me to the
juciest parts of that documentation would also be appreciated.
