I don't know what's really happening here, but it sounds as though
geomview is crashing as soon as you pick something.  It would then appear
to freeze, possibly for quite some time, while writing the large core file.

If you've gotten geomview by compiling the source distribution,
it might be possible to get some useful information out of the core file.
Try ``dbx   $geomroot/src/bin/geomview/gl/geomview  core''
(replacing $geomroot with the pathname of the geomview source tree).
At the (dbx) prompt type ``where'' to print a trace of the
procedures active when it crashed.  To exit dbx, type ``quit''.
If you do this, could you mail us the result?
