I've tried "polymerge -b </u/roseman/onetwistNew.4off >something.fe" on all the versions of polymerge I can find, and it doesn't crash. Do you have a current copy of polymerge? Its last change was about July 28th, fixing a bug that made it break on large files. Is your copy newer than that? If not, you could grab polymerge from e.g. julia's /usr/local/bin, or take it from the new Next geomview distribution package.
