Most likely the files are mounted from a remote file server via NFS,
and it's not allowing you to act as root from your own Next.  If so,
then probably most of the geomview files are owned by "nobody"; you might
check this with ls -l.  It's probably harmless if so.

If you can become root on the file server itself and run the installation
there, that would avoid the complaints.
