problem with install of geomview on DEC3000/500AXP

Dear Sir,

On june 29, 1994 I have transferred the geomview-alpha.x11-beta.tar.Z from
file://ftp.geom.umn.edu/priv/daeron/bin
and I have tried to install the software on a DEC3000/600AXP running
OSF1 version 2.0.
The installation looks OK, see the following install.log:

> GEOMROOT=/user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview
> BINDIR=/user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> MANDIR=/user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/man
> [Mathematica packages not installed.]

> Edited "geomview" to set GEOMROOT=/user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview.
> Installed geomview in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> Installed bin/alpha/anytooff in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> Installed bin/alpha/geomstuff in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> Installed bin/alpha/math2oogl in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> Installed bin/alpha/medit2gv in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> Installed bin/alpha/offconsol in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> Installed bin/alpha/polymerge in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin
> (null command)
> The manual page files are in /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/man (not

After the installation I typed "geomview" and it starts to complain:
geomview: /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin/alpha/gvx: cannot execute
I found /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin/alpha/gvx without execute permission.

> urbi.ecn.nl> pwd
> /user4/rvdstad/geomview/Geomview/bin/alpha
> urbi.ecn.nl> ll
> total 7911
> drwxr-xr-x 2 rvdstad NUC_fgar 512 Feb 9 11:42 ./
> drwxr-xr-x 3 rvdstad NUC_fgar 512 Feb 9 11:43 ../
> -rwxr-xr-x 1 rvdstad NUC_fgar 930473 Feb 9 11:41 anytooff*
> -r-xr-xr-x 1 rvdstad NUC_fgar 734 Feb 9 11:41 geomstuff*
> -rw-r--r-- 1 rvdstad NUC_fgar 6042583 Feb 9 06:45 gvx
> -rwxr-xr-x 1 rvdstad NUC_fgar 60374 Feb 9 11:40 math2oogl*
> -r-xr-xr-x 1 rvdstad NUC_fgar 1024 Feb 9 11:41 medit2gv*
> -rwxr-xr-x 1 rvdstad NUC_fgar 916663 Feb 9 11:41 offconsol*
> -rwxr-xr-x 1 rvdstad NUC_fgar 105736 Feb 9 11:41 polymerge*

So I "chmod 700 gvx".

Trying "geomview" again results in:

> urbi.ecn.nl> geomview
> Error <1>: ApFLoad: file built-in appearance: unknown appearance keyword earance
> File: appearance.c, Line: 333
>

Could you please tell me what I did wrong and how a can fix the problem?

As you may have noticed, I am a simple user just interested to see if your software
can be of any use to us.
If I like it I will ask our system manager to install it system wide and I will
supply to you the information you asked for in the REGISTER file.

Sincerely yours,
Rob
