This just means you didn't fully install GCC -- there's an extra  
step necessary to install libobjc.a at the end.  See my GCC  
installation script at

this.

Actually, if you're going to do this you might as well upgrade to  
GCC 2.6.3 or later (at ftp.gnu.ai.mit.edu).  Note that you'll have  
to recompile your Obj-C classes when you change from 2.5 to 2.6.
