[ REQ 5512]: cannot 'make' Geomview

I have a small question to ask the makers of Geomview:

I have been trying to make a generic X11 version of Geomview 
on a Personal Decstation and on a VaxStation 3100.

In both cases make reported the mentioning of libraries twice in the 
same rule and then gave up.

I am using GNU MAKE (v.3.72.1).
    ( The original DEC-MAKE just gives up )

So now the question :
   What MAKE should I use ? 
   Or is it something else I did wrong ?
   Is there something I CAN do to remedy the problem ?
