The problem seems to be simply that evert.NeXT wasn't compiled fat -- it's
for HPPA only.  To compile a fat binary, you'd just need to do the equivalent of

   make CC="g++ -arch m68k -arch i386 -arch hppa"

(possibly changing CC to whatever is used in the makefile for the C++ compiler;
I didn't check that) and to build it on one of the HP NeXTs, e.g. hardy.
I'm not undertaking to do this, just giving the recipe.
