You can pick up a newer beta version which should support your 16 bit
display from ftp://ftp.geom.umn.edu/priv/daeron/bin/gvx.linux.gz (593k)

This is simply the gvx binary, so you should gunzip it and use it to
replace your currently installed gvx binary. You can fine where gvx is
installed by looking at the "geomview" script which executes gvx.
