Ah, I see -- think I've fixed the bug causing the "duplicate layer"
error, so if you pick it up again, off2dxf -w ... might work.  It
just worked for me for an icosahedron, read by autocad 12.

I don't understand the part about 3DFACE's not making up a solid;
what would be different if they did?  If it's a matter of using
the SOLID .dxf primitive rather than 3DFACE, just change off2dxf
(with a text editor -- it's a plain text file), and change occurrences
of 3DFACE to SOLID.  (Or, for that matter, you could just edit the
generated .dxf file and try it.)

Anyway, please re-fetch
  ftp://geom.umn.edu/priv/slevy/off2dxf
as at least its -w option should work now.
