Next window server death

Here's the cryptic error message I got:

Oct  2 13:55:02 julia WM[1947]: DPS client library error: Error while
writing to connection, DPSContext c425c, data -102
Oct  2 13:55:03 Workspace[1947]: Exiting due to Window Server death
Software Version 3.0 (Hyper3B)

This time, it was right as I did a pick.  The pick also would have
triggered the creation of a new object, so either one could be the
real problem.
