There isn't a way to do that with lines -- line widths are really intended
to be something you can't simulate with geometry, namely being constant
in screen space.  You could build "lines" from polygons, though,
and then they would scale along with the rest of the world.
A cheap way to do this might be with a pair of hexagons:

  /----------------------\
 <                        >
  \----------------------/

arranged at right angles along their long axes; it'd have a reasonable
cross section at any viewing angle, and you can even simulate rounded ends.
