.geomview suggestion

I would favor a something simpler.  Part of my motivation for wanting
to get rid of ./.geomview is that it is too confusing.  I myself plus
several other people have been stumped by what is going on numerous
times until realizing that there was a ./.geomview present.  The
scheme you mentioned might be closer to what people probably want more
often than the present scheme, but it is still complicated.

If we did away with ./.geomview completely we could still provide
directory-specific customization by using a shell script in the
directory.  This has the advantage, assuming the shell script is not
called "./geomview", that it makes explicit the fact that something
other than the default thing is happening.
