graphing software

I read the article in "Notices of the American Mathematical Society"
about Geomview. I am a grad student in the OR department of UNC
Chapel Hill, working on a project involving planar graphs. My advisor
is interested in putting pictures of these graphs on screen. I will
be working in the X-Windows system, which I realize is as yet
unsupported by Geomview. What I need is much simpler program, however,
that will draw these graphs given the nodes and edges without crossing
the edges. Does the Geometry Center have some related software, or
perhaps have a suggestion of where I might turn to find such an algorithm?

much obliged,
Conrad Lautenbacher
