Thanks, yours is a very helpful report.  Could you check a few other things?

--  Does  "geomview -nopanels square.quad"  (or whatever other file)
    also crash?  You should then get only a graphics window, with no
    control panels.  

--  Can you tell what version of Motif is on your system?
    On one RS/6000 (running AIX 3.2) where geomview 1.4.2 works well,
	ls -l /usr/lib/libXm.a
    shows it's a sym-link to /usr/lpp/X11/Motif1.2/lib/libXm.a
    i.e. presumably they've got Motif 1.2.
