[ REQ 5034]: XWindows; Co-exist

I am planning on buying a copy of Co-exist (Xwindows for NeXT).

I have a student (undergraduate) who may be writing a geomview
module. This student has not programmed on a NeXT nor in XWindows
(but has done C++). I have never dealt with XWindows myself.

I know that the newer modules (such as 4Dtetris, nd-color panel,
nd-slicer, etc) are done in XWindows.

******************

What is the suggested way to go on this ?

I am assuming that the final goal should be an XWindows version. Is
this correct ?

Should this be done first on the Next then ported to X, or is it
reasonable to just do X in the first place ?

Am I correct in assuming that I need the developers version of
Co-exist to write such a module ?

What books on XWindows, if any, are needed/(highly recommended) to
write a relatively simple module ?
