Hi, Rich.  Thanks for the notes.

The easiest way to clean up clutter (including executables) in the
source tree is with "make clobber".  If done from the top of the
source tree, it will also remove the installed libraries,
so it may be best to say "cd src/bin; make clobber".

In the upcoming 1.5 source release, there's a top-level option (MGTYPE) in the
SGI build (makefiles/mk.sgi) which selects whether the copy of geomview in
the x11/ directory is compiled for GL graphics or vanilla X graphics.
We're making the default be GL, but you could change it for running geomview
on an iris to, say, a remote X terminal.  It'd be nice to be able to
automatically determine the proper graphics type at run time, but that'd be
more work.
