You can't use geomview's motion controls to selectively move just one
component of a LIST, no.  You'd have to make that LIST component be a separate
geomview object, select it, and then move it.

Re having objects not centered on the world origin: yes, if you turn 
normalization off (see the "Obscure" panel, or put "(normalization world none)"
in your ~/.geomview file).  When normalization is on, each object is scaled
and translated to fit into a unit sphere centered on the origin.
Try turning it off; maybe that will obviate the need to put all your pieces
of geometry in a single LIST.
