Both those problems are fixed in new the new 1.4.2 version, about to be
released.

In the SGI version you've got, you can use the "(interest ...)" comand
so long as you don't enter it into the Commands panel.  For example,
you could run
   geomview -c '(interest (pick XY))' ...

or alternatively you could make geomview read commands from the terminal --
by either starting it with "geomview -c -" or typing "P-" into a graphics
window once it's running -- and then type the (interest ...) command
into the terminal window where you started geomview.

Also, (interest ...) works when sent by an external module.

On the Sun 1.4.1 version, picking just doesn't work.
