making rib files

It seems to me I've done this before but I can't remenber how:

I have (a lot of) geomview files I want to make .rib files .

I am working remotely (on an SGI machine).

As a first step I thought something like this would work:

geomview -wins 0 -nopannels -c ribit onetwfig8m000.4off.off

Where 

abel 162% cat ribit
(rib-snapshot c0)
(exit)

but what happens is 

abel 163% geomview -wins 0 -nopannels -c ribit onetwfig8m000.4off.off
dgl error (TCP connect): Connection refused
dgl error (default init): default  
dglopen(dimension4.math.uiowa.edu:0,4) returned -127
