geomview

Transparency should partially work in the version of Geomview that you
have (SGI version 1.4.2, according to your registration). You have to
turn it on using the button in the Materials panel, and then specify a
transparency value using the slider in the same panel. You can do
both of these things on a per-object basis.

The catch is that it doesn't really work correctly. In order to work
correctly, Geomview would have to sort all polygons on every redraw so
that it could draw them in back-to-front order, and that's the part
that we haven't implemented. What you get with the current version
depends on the orientation of the objects in your scene. Sometimes it
looks OK, other time it looks awful. The higher the transparency
value (i.e. the more transparent an object is), the better things tend
to look.

We're working on polygon-sorting code now in the context of an X
windows version of Geomview, but it may take a while to get it worked
into the SGI version. We'll certainly send out a mailing when it's
ready.

I checked and you are definitely on the geomview-users mailing list;
there just hasn't been much activity on the list lately.
