Pretty neat. You might check whether the following file exists on your HP:

	/etc/filesets/X11R5-SHLIBS

Its presence indicates that that piece of software has been loaded. It's
present on ours; X11R5-SHLIBS includes a bunch of essential libraries:

-r-xr-xr-x 2/2 958464 Aug 30 21:09 1994 /usr/lib/X11R5/libX11.sl
-r-xr-xr-x 2/2 110592 Aug 30 21:09 1994 /usr/lib/X11R5/libXhp11.sl
-r-xr-xr-x 2/2 458752 Aug 30 21:09 1994 /usr/lib/X11R5/libXt.sl
-r-xr-xr-x 2/2 57344 Aug 30 21:09 1994 /usr/lib/X11R5/libXext.sl
-r--r--r-- 2/2 3200 Aug 30 21:09 1994 /usr/lib/X11/XKeysymDB
-r-xr-xr-x 2/2 2355200 Aug 30 21:09 1994 /usr/lib/Motif1.2/libXm.sl

(Curious: if there's no X11R5-SHLIBS, is there an X11R4-SHLIBS?
That won't help geomview though, as it was linked with the X11R5 libraries.)

I can't believe vanilla X libraries could be an extra-cost option from HP.
So, on the assumption that they just weren't loaded on your machine,
I've tarred our libraries plus the relevant control files (in /etc/filesets
and /system) into a 2MB compressed tar package. Assuming you can become
a superuser on the HP, you can get the tar package from geom.umn.edu as
priv/slevy/X11R5-SHLIBS.tar.Z, and extract it with
   zcat X11R5-SHLIBS.tar.Z | tar xvfp -
But don't extract it unless you determine that these files actually
aren't present on your system.

Hope this is some help... If you can't be or get the help of a superuser,
well, you're probably out of luck.
